The historians can’t seem to settle whether to call this one "The Third Space War" (or the fourth), or whether "The First Interstellar War" fits it better. We just call it “The Bug War." Everything up to then and still later were "incidents," "patrols," or "police actions." However, ...

Dude you don't know what you are talking about. While the book is militarist propaganda not worth the paper it was written on, the film is an absolute masterpiece, strongly denouncing war and ridiculing about every Hollywoodian stereotype out there. BTW I don't think you've ever seen it: there ain't no stinkin' powersuits in the movie :-b

If you think Starship Troopers is militaristic propaganda, you must have completely missed the classroom chapters. The movie was a travesty, the book was rather interesting.

    Heinlein's best and Hollywood's worst.

Stranger and Mars deserve a place on this list.. SST.. not by a long shot. I would go as far as probably his worst work.

The movie on the other hand is an amazing piece of candy coated satire.

'Stranger' does NOT deserve to be on the top-25 list. Kudos to the list-author for having the guts to leave it off. In the first place, 'Stranger' is not even SF. The stranger's powers are said to be because he was raised on Mars, but that is never explained further, and for all it matters in the book, they might as well be magic. And in the second place, it's Heinlein's worst book. Lazy, ineffectual, boring writing, hopeless stereotype characters that are laughably implausible in the things they do and say.

While it was a fun read, this book is very overrated.

Starship Troopers is a great book and if you don't pay attention to the classroom chapters you miss half of the reason it is great. It is amazing that such a great book could be butchered by an insipid, inaccurate, misrepresentation of the book and not have the director laughed out of town.
