If you're looking for action, go read Starship Troopers. If you're looking for thoughtful work that in the end will give you a fun and fascinating "kick" of a new perspective, stay right here. This is short, brilliant, and masterful.

The story line is lackluster, almost as if the plot and drama were added as an afterthought.
However, this book captures a great sense of wonder that is hard to find. And the final chapter is masterful and brilliant, to the point that I immediately went to look for the sequel, which turned out to be written by other authors, and much much stronger in the action department, but fails to capture the same sense and wonder that was the best part of the first book.

I enjoyed all four books. You want unending thrill and chills watch the Die Hard movies. I want my stories and characters to be well thought out. The scenes I can see in my mind. The characters are all different and their personality and traits well written. Immensely fun. Just finished the 4th book. The characters and I grew older together. Marie Ann

I found this dull and uninspired, unlike most of Clarkes work. Slow and tedious, the book starts slowly and then goes nowhere. I have no idea why this was considered a great book.
