Replay

by Ken Grimwood

5 avg rating

Jeff Winston, forty-three, didn't know he was a replayer until he died and woke up twenty-five years younger in his college dorm room; he lived another life. And died again. And lived again and died again -- in a continuous twenty-five-year cycle -- each time starting from scratch at the age of eighteen to reclaim lost loves, remedy past mistakes, or make a fortune in the stock market. A novel of gripping adventure, romance, and fascinating speculation on the nature of time, Replay asks the question: "What if you could live your life over again?"

The End Of Eternity

by Isaac Asimov

4.11 avg rating
One of Isaac Asimov’s SF masterpieces, this stand-alone novel is a monument of the flowering of SF in the 20th century. It is widely regarded as Asimov’s single best SF novel and one every SF fan should read.

Andrew Harlan is an Eternal, a member of the elite of the future. One of the few who live in Eternity, a location outside of place and time, Harlan’s job is to create carefully controlled and enacted Reality Changes. These Changes are small, exactingly calculated shifts in the course of history made for the benefit of humankind. Though each Change has been made for the greater good, there are always costs.

During one of his assignments, Harlan meets and falls in love with Noÿs Lambent, a woman who lives in real time and space. Then Harlan learns that Noÿs will cease to exist after the next change, and risks everything to sneak her into Eternity.

Unfortunately, they are caught. Harlan’s punishment? His next assignment: kill the woman he loves before the paradox they have created results in the destruction of Eternity.

The Anubis Gates

by Tim Powers

3.33 avg rating
Ace Books is proud to present this classic novel of time travel in a beautiful new trade edition. It took the fantasy world by storm a decade ago, and now fans can savor this Philip K. Dick Award-winner for the first time all over again. Only the dazzling imagination of Tim Powers could have assembled such an insane cast of characters: an ancient Egyptian sorcerer, a modern millionaire, a body-switching werewolf, a hideously deformed clown, a young woman disguised as a boy, a brainwashed Lord Byron, and finally, our hero, Professor Brendan Doyle.

Time Enough For Love

by Robert A. Heinlein

4.5 avg rating
[LIBRARY EDITION Audiobook CD format in sturdy Vinyl Case with cloth sleeves that keep compact discs protected.]

[Read by Tom Weiner]

Time Enough for Love is the capstone and crowning achievement of Heinlein's famous 'Future History' series. -- Lazarus Long is so in love with life that he simply refuses to die. Born in the early 1900s, he lives through multiple centuries, his love for time ultimately causing him to become his own ancestor. Time Enough for Love is his lovingly detailed account of his journey through a vast and magnificent timescape of centuries and worlds. Using the voice of Lazarus, Heinlein expounds his own philosophies, including his radical ideas on sexual freedom. His use of slang, technical jargon, sharp wit, and clever understatement lend this story a texture and authority that seems the very tone of things to come.

FREEDOM AND JUSTICE -- AMERICAN STYLE

1632 And in northern Germany things couldn't get much worse. Famine. Disease. Religous war laying waste the cities. Only the aristocrats remained relatively unscathed; for the peasants, death was a mercy.
2000 Things are going OK in Grantville, West Virginia, and everybody attending the wedding of Mike Stearn's sister (including the entire local chapter of the United Mine Workers of America, which Mike leads) is having a good time.
THEN, EVERYTHING CHANGED....
When the dust settles, Mike leads a group of armed miners to find out what happened and finds the road into town is cut, as with a sword. On the other side, a scene out of Hell: a man nailed to a farmhouse door, his wife and daughter attacked by men in steel vests. Faced with this, Mike and his friends don't have to ask who to shoot. At that moment Freedom and Justice, American style, are introduced to the middle of the Thirty Years' War.

There's a new time travel novel that is based upon Confederate President Jefferson Davis bribing Virginia to join the South by placing a ton of gold in the Bank of The Commonwealth in Richmond just before the Civil War began. That ton of gold disappeared and there is not a single $20 or $10 CSA gold coin in existence today. The Last Time Machine has Jessica Rothman - CEO of Rothcor Inc. sending six mercenaries from the year 2020 to the early Spring of 1861 to steal and bury the gold - to then be dug up in 2020 after they returned with the location. But an Artillery Captain - Daniel Hilton - accidentally energizes their retrieval disc and is snatched from his campfire to the time machine chamber - not full of smoke. He stumbles from the chamber believing he is in hell, and is immediately hit by a taser. Now we have six mercenaries trapped in 1861 and Daniel trapped in 2020 - truly fish-out-of-water. Then the story gets complicated, and at one point, Jessica gives Daniel a terrible ultimatum. "Your ticket back to your wife and son is to first be one of my lovers." Abraham Lincoln is thrown right in the middle of the action as we discover where the gold went.

This time travel goodie contains four of my favorite subjects: time travel, baseball, Irish-Americans, Mark Twain and other notable Americans of the 1870's. Loved the book and vivid descriptions of life in the late Nineteenth century
