Really? The Shannara books? I only recently learned that it's a post-apocalyptic setting in those books, but I still thought it was too far removed from SF-type themes and pretty much wholly fantasy. I'm of the opposite opinion. I think reading about Druss when he's an old man in Legend is a much better and more significant introduction, and it makes reading about his earlier life afterwards even more pleasurable having already known the man towards the end of his life. The Rigante books are also seriously great.
