For anyone lucky enough to be in or near Edinburgh on the 24th of November, there is a lecture being hosted by the Association of Scottish Literary Studies (ASLS) at the Robert Burns Room in the Scottish Parliament! Professor Caroline McCracken-Flesher from the University of Wyoming will be giving a talk titled The Humanities in a Post-Human Future: Iain Banks' Theory of Mind. Lecture is free to attend for all, but you must still register with the ASLS by the 16th of November (I'm guessing by the end of the day). I'm unfortunate enough to miss out on it, but hopefully someone else who's inspired by Banks can make it. Even if you haven't read any Banks, it might be worthwhile to attend the talk if you're nearby and free. I'm still waiting for critical/scholarly examinations of Banks' SF works and I'm surprised that no academic has gotten around to it as of yet. Soon, hopefully.
